Description
Multisyllable words can be difficult for our readers and spellers. Even if they have the patterns in one-syllable words down, adding an extra syllable or two can throw them off.
That’s why I advocate for explicitly teaching learners how to apply one-syllable phonics patterns to longer words to break them down into chunks. As soon as your learner seems ready for them, I say, “Go for it!” {You will know when your learners is ready when (s)he has mastered the one-syllable phonics pattern.}

Part 1: Read & Add – These pages ask learners to add the prefix to a base word. For example: re+read = reread
Part 2: Read & Divide – These pages ask learners to read the whole word and divide it into the prefix and base word. For example: reread = re + read.
Part 3: Read & Define – These pages ask learners to read the sentence, find the word with the prefix, and then define the word in the context of the sentence. For example: We think the new rules are unfair.
