Learners will their fill of snow and sound mapping with this snowman mapping pack. Use this activity to help your learners listen for and sound map words with three phonemes.
Spell-a-Snowman Mapping Pack
To “play,” learners should pick a hat card, name the picture, then write the letter or letters that represent each sound/phoneme on each of the snowballs. Once the word is spelled on the snowman, learners should write the entire word on the writing lines below. Of course, encourage learners to read the word back.
To make this activity something you can use time and time again, be sure to laminate the “Spell-a-Snowman Mats” or slip them into plastic sleeve protectors. This way, learners can use them with dry erase markers.
To have a record of what your learners have done, learners can record 12 of their answers {or 24 if you print front-to-back} using a pencil on the “Spell-a-Snowman Recording Page.”
The phonics skills included in this pack are:
- CVC Words such as cat, map, bed, and log.
- Short Vowel Words with Digraphs such as ship, chug, knot, and duck.
- CVCe Words such as hive, cake, and Pete.
- R-Controlled Words such as horn, shark, herd, and girl.
- Long CVVC Words such as chain, leaf, crow, and suit.
- Diphthongs & Complex Vowels such as shout, book, foil, and sauce.
Picture keys are included on each page so you’ll know the word that every picture represents. Remember that all the words included in this mapping pack have THREE PHONEMES {or sounds}.
