CVC Orthographic Mapping Puzzles

Orthographic mapping is a MUST with beginning or struggling readers. In order to mentally do orthographic mapping, we need to help them build a strong connections between phonemic awareness and the alphabetic principle {also known as phoneme grapheme mapping}.

These CVC Orthographic Mapping Puzzles include:

• 60 Self-Checking Printed Puzzles {in color and blackline} – Learners match up letters in the word to create a picture. As they do, encourage them to sound through the letters in the words.
• 60 Self-Checking Digital Puzzles via Google Slides. Learners match the puzzle then map the word on the same slide. Once they’ve typed in the word, they move a piece on the slide to reveal the answer. They can then check their mapping to be sure it is correct.
• Match It, Map It Recording Pages so learners can record the words they create. I would encourage you to wait a day or so and come back to the words they spell on the recording pages. Encourage learners to sound through the words to read them. {These are included both in print and digital.}
• CVC Word List to use with the assessment.
• Just Map It Assessment Page – Call words using the handy CVC word list included and ask learners to map the word in the boxes.
