Description
Check out our DIGITAL Vowel Team Spell in the Blank resource for Google Drive AND Seesaw!
Your learners won’t need to sort through color-coded magnetic letters {vowel red, consonants blue} to spell words with vowel team patterns. That’s what this digital resource is for!
FOUR Levels of Learning are Included:
Level 1: Short Vowels vs. Common Long Vowel Team Patterns
For example, short a words are compared to ai words. There are 20 total slides in this part.
These vowel teams (along with the five short vowels) are included in level 1: ai, ay, ee, ea, igh, final -y, oa, long ow, long oo, & ew. 2 slides are included for each vowel team.
Level 2: Visually Similar Vowel Team Pairs (some with Diphthongs)
For example, ea words are compared to oa words. There are 26 total slides in this section.
These vowel teams are compared in level 2:
- ai/oa
- ea/oa
- ee/ew
- ay/y
- oa/long oo
- long ow/ew
- ai/ui
- oe/ue
- ie/ue
- ie/oe
- ai/oi
- ay/oy
- au/ou
- aw/diphthong ow
Level 3: Similar Sound Vowel Team Pairs
For example, ai is compared to ay. There are 28 total slides in this level.
These vowel teams are compared in level 3:
- ai/ay
- ee/ea
- oa/long ow
- long oo/ew
- igh/y
- igh/ie
- oa/oe
- long oo/ui
- ue/ew
- long oo (food)/diphthong oo (foot)
- long ow (crow)/diphthong ow (clown)
- ou/ow
- oi/oy
- au/aw
Level 4: Four Different Vowel Teams with Less Common Patterns & Homophones
For example, the long a slide contains ai, ay, ea (great), and ey. There are 18 total slides in this level.
These vowel teams from level 4:
- Long a: ai, ay, ea (great), ey
- Long e: ee, ea, ie, -y
- Long i: igh, -y, ie, single i (kind)
- Long o: oa, ow, oe, single o (gold)
- Long u: ew, oo, ue, ui, ou
- Diphthongs & Other Vowels: oo, ou, ow, oi, oy, au, aw, w+a, a+l
The activities are great for phonemic awareness because they get learners to single out and listen for vowel phonemes {or sounds} in words.

Seesaw – There are ELEVEN activity links in this file. They are in shorter files, so they fit within Seesaw’s limitations and don’t overwhelm learners. If you’re unsure, you can follow the directions in my Seesaw tutorial to assign the activities.
