Shadows of Our Savior
The Bible tells one story. Not a made-up, make-believe story like a fairytale. No, it is a real story with a rich history and a wonderful future to come! The Bible is truly God’s story, and God is the Ultimate Hero. He deserves all the glory through all He has done and all He will do.
The God of the Bible isn’t a distance God who cranked up the universe and then just sat back to watch it all unfold. No, as He told Moses at the burning bush, He is the God who sees and hears. He is the God who has come down to rescue and save a lost and dying world. {Exodus 3:7-8} Hallelujah!
God has revealed Himself to us through His Word. We can know His attributes and His character because He has told us. Because of God’s Word, we can also know His One and Only Son, Jesus Christ. From the very beginning in Genesis, we see pictures {or shadows} of our Savior. God began dropping “hints” from the start that His Son, Jesus, would come down from the Father on a rescue mission.
Just as an author foreshadows events in a novel, God gave us shadows of Jesus in His Word. These shadows and prophecies of the Old Testament were designed to help His people and us identity the one and only Messiah. Jesus Himself said the Scriptures testified about Him. {John 5:39} Scripture uses the word “shadows” in Colossians 2 and Hebrews 8.

The Christmas season is such a great time to study the types and prophecies of Jesus’s birth, life, death, and resurrection! With the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season, it can be tempting to brush Christ aside to “get it all done.” May our hearts be turned in worship to Him alone!
This study is split into four weeks leading up to Christmas Day, with five days for each week. It can be done as a self-study {high school and up} or with your children {ages 6th grade+}.
Each day includes Scripture verses to read and then a study on how Christ is the substance or reality of the shadow from the Old Testament.
