No Prep Morpheme Games ~ Roll & Read
Use these NO PREP morpheme games to help learners practice recognizing and reading words with suffixes, prefixes, Greek roots, and Latin stems. They’re simple to implement. Just follow the directions at the top of each page for how to play.
- Morphemes are word parts that carry meaning. Suffixes, prefixes, stems, and roots are all morphemes.
- Suffixes are word parts added to the end of words, stems, or roots. For example, ing on jumping is a suffix.
- Prefixes are word parts added to the beginning of words, stems, or roots. For example, mis is a prefix in the word misfit.
- Greek roots and Latin stems are word parts that come from either the Greek or the Latin. For example, phone is a Greek root in the words homophone and telephone.
These games can be single player games OR 2-player games. To make them into 2-player games, one player chooses one color math counter to cover their spaces, and the other player chooses a different color math counter {as seen above}. Ahead of time, decide if learners can remove another player’s counter if they need that space.
The Google Slides versions of these games include digital counters that learners can drag and drop onto the board.
