Description

These CVC Match It Games were created for beginning readers. These games were designed so that learners begin by blending and reading the CVC word, then matching it to a corresponding picture on the board.

12 words/pictures are included one every game board.

If you teach a beginning reader, these games make blending and reading CVC words fun. They beat worksheets any day! 🙂

 

CVC Match It Games

The games in this pack come in color and blackline, print font and type font, as well as…

• Two games per short vowel {10 total}
• Two mixed vowel games with pairs of CVC words in which only their ENDING sounds are different like bug & bud, pet & peg
• Two mixed vowel games containing pairs of words in which only their VOWELS are different such as leg & log, dog & dig
• One game with pairs of words that are reversals of themselves. For example, mug & gum, net & ten.

 

To Prepare these Games:

• Print and laminate (optional) the game board of your choice.
• Print, laminate (optional), and cut apart the CVC word cards corresponding with the game board.
• Shuffle the cards and place in a baggie or on a tray/in a bin.

 

 

To Play these Games:

• Learners place the game board on a flat surface.
• Learners pick a card, blend & read the word, and match it to a picture by placing the word card on top of the picture on the game board.

 

To Extend the Games:

• When learners are finished matching the words to the pictures and their board is covered, have them go back to blend/read all the words again.
• Learners can double-check to see if they read the word correctly by lifting the card off and looking at the picture below.
• Make it more of a challenge by giving learners two different game boards with matching word cards. Learners must read the card and figure out which game board/picture it should cover.
