How to Play the Climb & Slide Morpheme Games
Play is similar to the classic game, “Chutes and Ladders.”
- All players (for 2-4 players) technically begin off the board to the left of “Start” at the bottom left of the board.
- On their turn, the player rolls a die then moves their object that many spaces on the gameboard. {Players will zigzag up the board, first moving right and then up and left until they reach “End” at the top.
- Once a player lands on a space, they read AND define the word. On the game board shown above, the learner would read “photosynthesis” and define* it in terms of the morphemes it includes.
- If a player lands on a ladder, they should “climb up” the gameboard and read/define the word in that space.
- If a player lands on a slide, they should “slide down” the gameboard and read/define the word.
- The player who gets to the star at the top (“End”) first is the winner.
*Note: Words may have a literal meaning and then a connotative meaning. This should lead to some good discussions!
